Family Governance Workshop

Purpose

When share transfer discussions begin without agreed governance rules, every decision becomes personal. This workshop gives family shareholders a shared framework for how they will meet, vote, resolve disagreements, and communicate with operating management — before specific transfer terms are negotiated.

Included

Pre-workshop interviews with up to six participants, a customised agenda, facilitation of a six-hour session, and a written summary of agreements reached. Topics typically cover family council formation, voting thresholds for major decisions, employment policies for family members, and dividend distribution principles.

Preparation required

Participants should block a full day without operational interruptions. The founder or chair should circulate the workshop purpose to all attendees at least two weeks in advance to reduce surprise and resistance.

Outcome

Families leave with documented governance principles — not binding legal instruments, but a reference document that informs subsequent legal drafting and reduces recurring arguments about process.
